THE TALL MAN starring Barry Sullivan

The Tall Man is a Western television series that aired on NBC from 1960 to 1962. The series stars Barry Sullivan as Pat Garrett and newcomer Clu Gulager as Billy the Kid in  fictionalized half-hour episodes about the relationship between the famous outlaw and the frontier sheriff who eventually killed him.

Set in New Mexico during the 1870's, The Tall Man told fictionalized stories of the adventures of two real-life characters, Deputy Sheriff Pat Garrett and William H. Bonney, more popularly known as Billy the Kid. Western stalwart Barry Sullivan played Sheriff Garrett, whose honesty and forthrightness had earned him the nickname "The Tall Man". Billy, a youthful gunfighter with a penchant for getting himself into trouble, was played by another Western star, Clu Gulager. With episodes written and directed by some of Hollywood's best, The Tall Man featured many of televisions' best stars.

Memorably, the series opened each week with a shot of extremely a long shadow cast by Sullivan on a western street (the "tall man"). The series was produced by Revue Productions and currently remains almost impossible to see today, even in the form of clips.  Here is a rare look at 8 better then average surviving episodes.
