Radio In The Movies - Classic Movie Collection
Radio In The Movies is a collection of wonderful movies revolving around radio broadcasting. “Wake Up And Live” stars Alice Faye who plays a studio singer at the local station and helps Jackie Oakley get over his mike fright. “Breakfast in Hollywood” was based upon the popular ABC radio show of the 1940s and “People are Funny” was, of course, based on Art Linkletter’s very popular radio program. One of the highly under-rated movies in this collection is “Danger On The Air.” Starring Nan Grey and Donald Woods, it’s a nifty mystery film. A radio station program sponsor gets bumped off and there’s no end to the suspects. In this one you get to see all kinds of neat old time radio equipment as the mystery unfolds at the radio station. I won’t give away the ending but this one co-stars a very young Lee J. Cobb. Included also is the original Amos and Andy movie, “Check and Double Check,” with Freeman Gosden and Charles Correll in blackface as their original characters of Amos and Andy. In “Up In The Air” a none-too-popular radio singer, Rita Wilson is murdered while singing on the air in a radio studio. Radio page boy, Frankie Ryan, and his janitor pal, Jeff, solve the mystery. “The Phantom Broadcast” is the story of a handsome radio singer who has it all—fame, money, adoring fans—but what no one knows is that his accompanist, a hunchbacked piano player, is actually the voice behind the arrogant, abusive singer’s fame. “The Loudspeaker” stars Ray Walker as a loudmouth radio emcee who falls in love with a beautiful waitress with hilarious results. Wonderful collection of eight full-length movies. 8 DVD Set.
